Haven restaurant of Lenox will be opening a branch of its breakfast and lunch café in Café Adam’s old spot on Rte. 7 across from Price Chopper Plaza. Look for the same wonderful treats loved in Lenox (with much easier parking!)
Patisserie Lenox will open a second location in Great Barrington in June. Owners plan to stay open late for the after-theater crowds, as well as offer sidewalk café tables, weather permitting. This location will serve as the bakery for both stores. We warmly welcome Jean Yves and Yulia to town.
Bagel and Brew is expected to open in June in Lenox at the former location of Berkshire Bagels. Owners Phil Cohen and Sam Canfield will serve up to 12 varieties of bagels from Bagels Too in Pittsfield and donuts from Home Sweet Home in Great Barrington, along with coffee and tea. Breakfast will be served all day with flavored cream cheese, eggs and sausages. Good Luck Phil and Sam.
Lenox Natural Foods has opened in Lenox. Formerly Clearwater Natural Foods, the new shop, owned by the Dragonetti siblings of Spoon, has been completely renovated and now includes fresh produce, as well as a wonderful selection of organic and natural products —a welcome addition to downtown Lenox.
The owners of Mazzeo’s Ristorante have purchased the site of the former Halpin’s Grub and Grog at 490 Pittsfield Road in Lenox and plan to open a sports bar there this summer. Go Sox!

Café Adam has re-opened in its new, larger restaurant at the Jennifer House Commons in Great Barrington. Congratulations to Chef Adam Zieminski, who was included in the 2013 Best Chefs America book.
The frozen yogurt trend has reached the Berkshires! Two new frozen yogurt shops are now open—FroYo World in Great Barrington has 10 probiotic flavors and a fun array of fresh and delicious toppings. Ayelada (Greek for cow) in Pittsfield is a locally crafted, freshly made frozen yogurt using high-protein milk from local, grass-fed Jersey cows. They have three flavors daily and a selection of fresh toppings. These new shops join Berkshire Yogurt in Lenox to offer The Berkshires nutritious and delicious treats.
The Kitchen in the Commons opened in Lenox on Rte. 7 in the Lenox Commons. Partners Laura and Zee from Firefly will now, also be serving farm fresh breakfast and lunch at moderate prices.
Berkshire Bike and Board has opened a Pittsfield branch of their GB store, located in the space vacated by Greylock Outdoors. They will be having their once yearly Customer Appreciation sale at both locations, August 23–25.
Noticing some funny-looking “farm” fields lately? They are Hops farms on Rte. 41 in Great Barrington, Glass Bottom Brewery and Hoppy Valley Organics in Pownal, VT, off Rte. 7. Both intend to brew their own and will supply organic hops to local craft breweries. See our story, “Hoppy Days Are Here Again,” in this issue of Edible Berkshires.
The gardens at Naumkeag on Prospect Hill Rd. in Stockbridge have been undergoing a major restoration by the Trustees of Reservations, part of a multiphase project to repair damage and replace plantings. A generous donor has provided seed money to match other donations for the funding of this project. Open daily through October 15, 10am–5pm.
A warm welcome to Chocolatier Doria Tolinger of H.R. Zeppelin. Doria is due to open a new shop in late June next to the Triplex in Great Barrington. She will produce handmade, artisanal chocolates and special-occasion cakes on site. Taking full advantage of the theater patio, a few café tables for patrons will be available to enjoy an espresso and a chocolate treat.
Farmer Rich Ciotola (see EdibleBerkshire.com/ summer 2012 issue) has moved to the land that was formerly “Farm Girl Farm,” and has named it “Pumpkin Hollow Farm.” Rich intends to practice low-impact, natural and sustainable farming with his oxen team, allowing special attention to be paid to soil structure.
Laura Meister of Farm Girl Farm has begun farming on land adjacent to Equinox Farm in Sheffield, with a collaboration that will save labor and eliminate duplication for both farms.
Outstanding in the Field will be returning to the Berkshires for two nights of wonderful food and festivities. Lila Berle will host Chef Dan Smith from John Andrews’s restaurant on September 7. Hancock Shaker Village will be the site for an encore performance by Brian Alberg of the Red Lion Inn on September 8. At press time there were still a few seats left for the second night.
Congratulations to Ted Dobson, Equinox Farm for his recent “write-in” election to the Board of Selectmen in Sheffield. He joins Sean Stanton of Blue Hill Farm in Great Barrington as a voice for farmers in our communities.
Congratulations to The Inn at Sweetwater Farm in N. Egremont. The DailyMeal. com included them in the 50 best B & B’s for food in the U.S. They serve a wonderful farm-to-table breakfast with eggs from their own chickens and locally sourced ingredients. YUM!
North Adams will be holding their annual “Berkshire Food Festival.” The event will be on September 15, 12-4pm, under large tents on Main St., downtown. Vendor space is still available for food, wineries and brewers, application deadline August 14.
