Fall Frolicking at High Lawn Farm

Email

On the heels of its late-summer 200th anniversary community celebration, High Lawn Farm is donning its fall colors and welcoming the community to join in the fun. Come check out the pumpkin patch from the end of September through October and choose from nine varieties, all grown right on the farm. You can even bring your (leashed, well-behaved) pooch. While you’re there, you can visit the Jersey cows, as always, and treat yourself to hot apple cider (sourced from Hilltop Orchards in Richmond) and cider donuts on the weekends. A seasonal addition to the ice cream menu: apple crisp ice cream, made with Hilltop apples. Fun fact: One of High Lawn’s most delicious cheeses (and our personal favorite), Crema Alpina, is washed with Hilltop’s hard cider while it’s aging. The cider is sprayed on the cheese then massaged into it with a brush. We do love it when two fabulous Berkshire farms collaborate!

For a little throwback to the Berkshire days gone by, head to High Lawn on October 8, when Berkshire Coaching Weekend reenacts the Gilded Age tradition of coaching. That’s when swells such as the Astors, Vanderbilts, Morgans, Carnegies, and Westinghouses stepped out of their elegant “cottages” and into horse-drawn coaches for leisurely outings to admire the fall foliage, decked out in appropriate coaching attire, of course (think brimmed hats and long skirts). For the full coaching schedule, visit berkshirecoachingweekend.com. On October 8, the coaches leave Orleton Farm on Prospect Hill in Stockbridge at 10am and arrive at High Lawn at 11. The public is welcome to view the coaches.

On October 28, bring your kids (or just yourself, if you’re a kid at heart) to High Lawn Halloween. You can pick, paint, or carve your own pumpkin (supplies provided by the farm for this event). Also on deck that day: a scavenger hunt and a kids’ costume party. You might even want to bring a picnic or order a cheese and charcuterie board. And did we mention that you can visit the cows?
